Box Score Brevard, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs outshot Brevard College 36-3 Saturday afternoon, cruising to a 3-0 victory over the Tornados in South Atlantic Conference women’s soccer action. The Bulldogs improve to 6-1-1 overall and 3-1 in the SAC. Brevard falls to 1-8-1 overall and 0-4 in the conference.
Sophomore midfielder
Katie Simpson (Indian Trail, N.C.) got the Bulldogs on the board 11:16 into the opening half, scoring her first career goal as a Bulldog. Wingate led 1-0 at halftime, out-shooting the Tornados 16-2 while holding a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal.
The Bulldogs added to their lead in the 62nd minute, when sophomore forward
Jade Montgomery (Monroe, N.C.) scored her league-best 11th goal of the season. Junior forward
Chandler Murphy (Daniels Island, S.C.) had the assist on the play, as Montgomery scored a goal for the third consecutive game.
Freshman midfielder
Danielle Cremmen (Acton, Mass.) put Wingate on top 3-0 14 minutes later, getting a cross from senior forward
Shelby Forza (Pickering, Ontario) to score her first career goal.
Wingate had 17 shots on goal in the match, while all three of Brevard’s shots were on goal. Montgomery had a game-high 10 shots, while Cremmen registered eight shots. Senior goalkeeper
Miriam Boucher (Calgary, Alberta) had three saves to preserve the shutout for the Bulldogs. Junior
Brittany Webster (Stafford, Va.) had 14 saves for the Tornados.
Wingate returns to action next Saturday, hosting Lincoln Memorial at 4:30 p.m. Brevard travels to Lenoir-Rhyne Saturday at 5 p.m.
