Tusculum senior guard Kendal Baxter (Sevierville, Tenn.) converted an old-fashioned three-point play to cut the Pioneer deficit to 50-48 with 2:20 to play, scoring Tusculum’s final points of the day. TC senior forward Jama Hammontree (Greenback, Tenn.) blocked a Wingate shot on the other end, giving the visitors a chance to tie or take the lead. The Pioneers missed a jumper and Bulldog senior forward Tish Logan (Suitland, Md.) got the rebound.

Wingate sophomore guard Kelli Bonner (Yadkinville, N.C.) hit a jumper with one minute to play to put the Bulldogs up four. A technical on the Tusculum bench gave Williams two free throws with 45.5 seconds left. The pre-season All-SAC guard drained both free throws to make the score 54-48 Wingate. The Pioneers missed three three-point tries in the waning moments; the Bulldogs added two free throws on two possessions for the final margin.

In the first half, the two teams exchanged the lead three times with five tie scores. A Mosley fast-break lay-up gave the Pioneers a 27-24 lead with 4:05 to go in the opening stanza. The Bulldogs responded with a 7-0 run to take a 31-27 edge at intermission. Wollett contributed a three-point field goal to the flurry.
