Jade Montgomery (Monroe, N.C.) had two goals and an assist Saturday afternoon, leading the 22nd-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs past visiting Anderson University in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action. Wingate improves to 11-2-3 overall and 7-2-1 in the SAC. Anderson falls to 5-7-4 overall and 3-3-4 in the conference.
The first half went scoreless, with Anderson holding a 6-5 advantage in shots. Each team registered one shot on goal.
The Bulldogs got on the board 10 minutes into the second half. A shot from senior midfielder
Chandler Murphy (Pawleys Island, S.C.) hit the post. The rebound went to Montgomery, who found the back of the net for the 12th time this year.
Montgomery added another goal 31 minutes later, taking a perfect cross from senior midfielder
Taryn Grivois (Murietta, Calif.) and heading home her league-best 13th goal of the season.
Montgomery found Murphy with less than two minutes in regulation. The senior chipped one over the keeper from a tough angle, netting her fourth goal of the season to make the final margin 3-0.
Wingate outshot Anderson 17-11 on the afternoon, holding a 7-2 edge in shots on goal. Senior
Carly Rives (Matthews, N.C.) had a save in the first half, while junior
Ashlyn Hardie (Summerfield, N.C.) registered one save in the second half.
Kaitlyn Neipp had four saves for the Trojans.
Wingate returns to action Saturday, Nov. 2, traveling to Lincoln Memorial for a 1 p.m. start. Anderson hosts Carson-Newman the same day at 1 p.m.
