Macy Franklin (Conover, N.C.) tallied goals to lead the Bulldogs to a 2-0 South Atlantic Conference women's soccer victory over Mars Hill University Friday night at Meares Stadium.
Wingate is 6-1-3 overall and 3-1-1 in the SAC. Mars Hill slips to 1-6-2 overall and 0-4-1 in the SAC. The Bulldogs visit SAC newcomer Coker Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. The MHU Lions hit the road the same day, traveling to Lenoir-Rhyne for a 5 p.m. tilt.
Montgomery put the visitors on the board in the seventh minute, scoring on a rebound. The 2013 SAC Female Athlete of the Year has seven goals this season. She was assisted on the play by senior midfielder
Taryn Grivois (Murrieta, Calif.).
Franklin converted a penalty kick in the 71st minute to complete the scoring. Wingate outshot Mars Hill 31-5. Montgomery had more shots (seven) than the entire Mars Hill side. The Bulldogs held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

The Coker match concludes a three-match road swing for the Bulldogs. Wingate hosts Brevard Saturday, Oct. 12, the team's first home match since Sept. 25 (Wingate 3, Catawba 0).
