Da Silva leads Bulldogs past Coker 4-2 Wednesday

Hartsville, S.C.----Wingate University junior forward Peron Da Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil) had two goals and an assist Wednesday night, leading the visiting Bulldogs to a 4-2 victory at Coker College in South Atlantic Conference men's soccer action. Wingate improves to 7-3 overall and 4-2 in the SAC, while Coker falls to 4-4-2 overall and 2-3-1 in the conference.

Da Silva scored the first goal of the contest 19:45 into the match, with sophomore midfielder Shaun Gadsby (Newcastle, England) registering the assist.

Wingate took a two-goal lead less than a minute later, when freshman forward Charlie Machell (Newcastle, England) found the back of the net. The assist came from freshman midfielder Callum Ross (Newcastle, England).

The Bulldogs took a 3-0 lead in the 33rd minute, with Da Silva scoring his second goal of the night and team-best sixth of the season. Wingate led 3-0 at halftime, holding a 5-1 advantage in shots and 3-1 edge in shots on goal.

The Bulldogs took a 4-0 lead three minute into the second half when Machell found the back of the net for the second time in the match and fourth time this season. Da Silva had the assist on the play.

Coker got on the board in the 62nd minute on a goal from Jordan Snell. Daniel Jackson had the assist. Jackson would add a goal with just under five minutes remaining in regulation, making the final margin 4-2.

Wingate out-shot the Cobras 13-10 on the night, holding an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper Sanjit Kang (Mississauga, Canada) had three saves to preserve the Wingate victory. Mark Nankervis had three saves for Coker.

The Bulldogs return to action Friday, hosting Brevard at 7 p.m.
