Gui Andrade (Sao Paulo, Brazil) scored with less than 10 minutes remaining in regulation, giving the 23rd-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs a 1-0 victory at Lincoln Memorial University in South Atlantic Conference men's soccer action Saturday afternoon. Wingate finishes the regular season 11-4-1 overall and 8-2-1 in the SAC. LMU falls to 9-7-1 overall and 6-4-1 in the conference.
Wingate finishes the regular season alone in second place in the SAC standings. The Bulldogs will host a quarterfinal contest Tuesday in the opening round of the Food Lion SAC Tournament. Wingate will learn its opponent later Saturday night.
The first half was scoreless, with Wingate holding a slim 7-5 advantage in shots. The Bulldogs had the lone shot on goal in the opening 45 minutes.
With 9:23 remaining in regulation, Wingate was fouled inside the box, earning a penalty kick. Andrade found the back of the net for the third time this year, giving Wingate the 1-0 advantage.
