Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University women's basketball team erased a 23-point second half deficit, but Catawba College tallied the game's final four points en route to an 85-81 South Atlantic Conference victory Wednesday night in Cuddy Arena and Thomas Koontz Family Court. Senior guard
Janitsha Williams (Statesville, N.C.) scored a career-high 29 points for Wingate, while junior forward/guard
Chloe Bully (Hannut, Belgium) led Catawba with 27 points.
Both teams were playing their SAC opener. Catawba is 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the SAC. Wingate is 2-1 overall and 0-1 in the SAC. The Bulldogs visit Tusculum Saturday at 2 p.m. Catawba hosts Mars Hill Saturday at 2 p.m.
Williams filled out her statistics sheet with eight rebounds, five steals and four assists. She hit five-of-seven from downtown, including four-of-four in the final 65 seconds. Wingate senior forward

Zhaquondelee Greer (Greensboro, N.C.) had 19 and 18 points, respectively. Catawba hit 12-of-22 three-point field goals Wednesday night (54.5 percent). Bully hit five-of-nine, while Ucinski converted three-of-four. Greer hit three triples in six attempts.

Shelby Tricoli (Waynesville, N.C.) cut Wingate's deficit to 65-52 with 7:48 to play. Bully's fifth and final three-point field goal stretched the visitors' lead to 73-54 with 4:45 to go.
Williams started her three-point barrage with 1:05 left, nailing the first of four late-game triples to make the score 77-66 Catawba. She immediately stole the inbounds pass, making a lay-up and drawing a foul to bring the Bulldogs within nine points one second later.

Jasmine DeBerry (Charlotte, N.C.) found Williams for another three-pointer six seconds later to cut Wingate's deficit to 77-71. Bully made one-of-two free throws to give the Indians a 78-71 lead at the 57-second plateau.
Williams drained another three-pointer at the 49-second mark to pull the Bulldogs within four at 78-74. Ucinski and Harris traded two free throws each and then Bully hit one-of-two to put the Indians up 81-76 with 38 ticks left on the regulation clock.
Tricoli made two charity tosses with 31 seconds to go, making the contest a one-possession game at 81-78. Wingate instantly fouled Ucinski and she missed both free throws. Williams tied the contest 81-81 on her final trifecta with 20 seconds remaining.
Wingate fouled Catawba junior forward
Mallary Clay (Lansing, N.C.) five seconds later; she made both free throws to give the visitors the lead for good. The Bulldogs missed a potential tying jumper in the waning moments before fouling Ucinski with three ticks on the clock. She made two-of-two from the line for the final margin.
Wingate scored 44 points in the paint, compared to 26 for Catawba. The Bulldogs turned 24 Indian turnovers into 26 points. Wingate won the second-chance points (12-9) and the fast-break points (11-7) by slim margins. Catawba shot 50.9 percent from the floor (29-of-57), including 59.1 percent after intermission (13-of-22). Wingate made 43.1 percent of its field goal tries (31-of-72). The Bulldogs held a slim 38-37 rebounding advantage.
