Box Score
Rock Hill, S.C.----The second-seeded Wingate University Bulldogs advanced to the championship game of the Food Lion SAC women's soccer tournament for the fourth consecutive year by defeating the third-seeded Pioneers of Tusculum College 3-0 in the semifinals Friday night at Manchester Meadows. Wingate improves to 14-2-3 overall, advancing to Sunday's championship match to take on Lincoln Memorial. Tusculum falls to 10-7-3 on the season.

Wingate got on the board 18 minutes into the first half, when SAC Player of the Year Jade Montgomery (Monroe, N.C.) scored her league-best 14th goal of the season. Freshman forward Brooke Howell (Charlotte, N.C.) and senior defender Chandler Murphy (Pawleys Island, S.C.) assisted on the play. Montgomery now has 10 goals in eight career SAC Tournament matches.

Wingate took a 2-0 lead seven minutes into the second half when Murphy took a loose ball in the box and ripped one past the keeper, netting her fifth goal of the season.

The Bulldogs scored in the last minute of the match to make the final margin 3-0. Montgomery's lead pass found Howell behind the defense, who found the back of the net for the eighth time in her freshman year.

The Bulldogs outshot Tusculum 19-8 on the match, holding a 7-5 edge in shots on goal. Montgomery registered a match-high seven shots. Junior goalkeeper Ashlyn Hardie (Summerfield, N.C.) registered five saves as the Bulldogs notched their 12th shutout of the season. Marissa Williams had four saves for Tusculum.

Wingate and LMU meet in the SAC championship for the first time ever. The Bulldogs have played Lenoir-Rhyne in each of the last three SAC Tournament championship matches, defeating the Bears in 2011 to win their first-ever SAC Tournament title. LMU defeated Lenoir-Rhyne 2-0 Friday night. Wingate won 3-1 at Lincoln Memorial in the regular season meeting. The championship match will be Sunday at 4 p.m. at Manchester Meadows in Rock Hill.
