Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University women’s basketball team completes a brief two-game home stand Saturday, hosting Carson-Newman University for a 2 p.m. South Atlantic Conference contest in Cuddy Arena and Thomas Koontz Family Court on the Wingate campus (

view live statistics). The Bulldogs (10-9 overall, 4-5 SAC) equaled their season-high point total Wednesday, topping Catawba 77-56. The C-N Eagles (11-5 overall, 5-4 SAC) handed Brevard an 18-point, 71-53 setback Wednesday.

Chantal Dunbar (Norfolk, Va.) posted her eighth double-double of the season with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Dunbar shares the SAC lead in double-doubles.
Wingate made only three turnovers in the first half Wednesday, sprinting to a 45-27 advantage at intermission. Dunbar had a double-double at halftime with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Williams and Wollett had nine points each. On the night, Wollett had a game-high eight assists as Wingate recorded a season-high 18 helpers.
Wingate won two-of-three against Carson-Newman last season. In the Food Lion SAC tournament semi-finals, the Bulldogs earned a 66-49 victory over the C-N Eagles. Wingate hit 56 percent of its second half field goal attempts (14-of-25) in the March 3, 2012 contest.
The two teams split their regular season match-ups, with the host team taking the victory on both occasions. On Feb. 4, Carson-Newman hit 34-of-38 free throws in a 71-66 home triumph. C-N senior forward
Whitney Moody (Blountville, Tenn.) had 20 points to lead all scorers. Williams had 14 markers for the visiting Bulldogs.

Williams (13.5 points per game), Wollett (12.1) and Dunbar (10.9) top the Wingate scoring charts. The trio has increased its production in SAC play, as Williams has 15.2 points per game in league contests only. Wollett has 13.4 points per game in SAC encounters, while Dunbar contributes 11.6 markers.
Dunbar averages a double-double overall (10.9 points, 10.1 rebounds) and a double-double in SAC games only (11.6 points, 11.4 rebounds). She leads the SAC in rebounding and ranks 31st in the NCAA Division II in the same category. As a team, Wingate is first in the SAC in rebounding margin (+7).
Carson-Newman leads the SAC in team scoring defense (55.5 points per game allowed) and team three-point field goal percentage (33.8 percent). Eagle junior forward
Shyra Clark (Cleveland, Tenn.) is C-N’s top scorer with her 12.1 points per game. Freshman guard
Tatum Burstrom (Maryville, Tenn.) is next with 11.1 points per game. Six different players have served as Carson-Newman’s top single-game scorer this season. Clark has led the way eight times this campaign. She is also the Eagles’ best rebounder with her 6.6 rebounds per game.

Ann Hancock (’92) and the Bulldog family will host women’s basketball Alumni Day Saturday, Feb. 2. The Wingate women’s basketball alumni will be recognized at halftime of the WU-CN game. The women’s basketball team will host a reception for the alumni following the contest. Alumni will have a chance to interact with current student-athletes.
