Box Score
Pembroke, N.C.----Wingate University junior forward Jade Montgomery (Monroe, N.C.) picked the right time to score her 40th career goal, converting a header to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 overtime victory at UNC Pembroke Monday night. The 2012 first team Daktronics All-American has six goals this season for undefeated Wingate (3-0-2 overall). UNC Pembroke slips to 3-2 overall.

"Our decision-making in the final third was not as solid as we would like," Wingate head coach Chip Wiggins says. "We hit the wall tonight…and playing overtime didn't help. Throughout the season, teams will have many different things happen to test their mettle. Fortunately, we were able to respond tonight…and get the win."

A cross from senior forward Brandi Baldwin (Stallings, N.C.) found Montgomery at the far post with 67 seconds remaining in the first overtime frame (98:53). The Bulldogs pelted the UNCP goal, as Wingate claimed a 25-7 advantage in shots. Wingate had six corner kicks, compared to zero for the host Braves.

Montgomery played a role in Wingate's first goal. Her assist found freshman forward Brooke Howell (Charlotte, N.C.) on a break-away, giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute.
UNC Pembroke tied the contest 1-1 in the 83rd minute, as sophomore forward Rae-Shawna Campbell (Wilmington, N.C.) posted her first goal of the season on an assist from junior midfielder Michelle Hernandez (Linköping, Sweden).

Montgomery outshot UNC Pembroke by herself, as the Piedmont High School graduate had nine shots (five on goal). Howell took five shots with four strikes on goal. Wingate freshman goalkeeper Lauren Schoonover (Lake Stevens, Wash.) earned her third career victory with three saves in 98-plus minutes. UNCP senior goalkeeper Britney Bennett (Seminole, Fla.) took the loss, posting 14 saves. Both Schoonover and Bennett went the distance between the pipes.

Wingate opens the home portion of its 2013 slate Wednesday, entertaining Lees-McRae. Wednesday's kick-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. UNC Pembroke visits Montevallo (Ala.) Saturday for a 2 p.m. contest.
