­­Four different Bulldogs score in 4-1 victory over Catawba

Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs scored three goals in the opening 21 minutes Wednesday night en route to a 4-1 victory over visiting Catawba College in South Atlantic Conference men's soccer action. Wingate improves to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the SAC. Catawba falls to 3-2 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

Wingate got on the board three minutes into the contest. A corner kick from sophomore midfielder Liam Gillesphey (Newcastle, England) was controlled by junior defender Victor Tozelli (Sao Paulo, Brazil). He found sophomore midfielder Shaun Gadsby (Newcastle, England) at the top of the box, who lined one from 20 yards out into the corner, netting his second goal of the season.

The Indians tied the match four minutes later. A corner kick from Kevin Scott was re-directed by Heitor Vinci, finding the back of the net, making it 1-1.

The Bulldogs took the lead in the 21st minute. A shot from senior forward Pedro Figuiera (Sao Paulo, Brazil) was saved by Catawba goalkeeper Frankie Cardelle. Gadsby controlled the rebound and got it back to Figuiera, who found the back of the net for the first time of the year to make it 2-1.

The 'Dogs took a two-goal lead four minutes later when freshman midfielder Aksel Juul (Newcastle, England) re-directed a shot from Tozelli in front of the net, making it 3-1. The goal was once again set up by a Gillesphey corner kick.

Wingate took a three-goal lead in the second half when senior midfielder Gui Andrade (Sao Paulo, Brazil) scored his first goal of the season on a penalty kick.

The Bulldogs out-shot Catawba 21-7 on the night, holding an 11-3 advantage in shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper Sanjit Kang (Mississauga, Canada) had two saves for the Bulldogs. Cardelle registered six saves for the Indians.

Wingate returns to action Sunday, traveling to Tusculum for a 3:30 p.m. start.
