Morrow, Ga.----The University of Montevallo Falcons scored a goal in the final five minutes of regulation Saturday afternoon en route to a 2-2 tie against the Bulldogs of Wingate University. Wingate moves to 0-0-2 on the year, while the Falcons move to 0-1-1 overall.
Montevallo got on the board 16:39 into the contest via an own goal. The Falcons led 1-0 at halftime.
Wingate tied the game 13 minutes into the second half when senior forward
Chandler Murphy (Pawley's Island) netted her first goal of the season on an assist from junior
Jade Montgomery (Monroe, N.C.).
The Bulldogs took the lead when Murphy found senior defender
Meaghan Barry (Naples, Fla.), who scored her first goal of the year to make it 2-1.
Montevallo scored the equalizer with 4:03 remaining in regulation when
Jade Pennock found the back of the net.
Christine Prince had the assist.
Wingate out-shot Montevallo 29-11 on the afternoon, holding a 13-5 edge in shots on goal. Montgomery took a game-high seven shots. Junior
Lauren Schoonover (Lake Stevens, Wash.) had three saves for the Bulldogs.
Kaitlin Thomas had nine saves for the Falcons.
Wingate returns to action Wednesday, traveling to Mount Olive for a 7 p.m. start.Â
