Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University women's basketball team sprinted to a 41-13 halftime lead and never looked back, claiming a 66-48 South Atlantic Conference women's basketball victory over Queens University of Charlotte Wednesday night in Cuddy Arena and Thomas Koontz Family Court. Three players hit double figures for the host Bulldogs.
With the victory, Wingate improves to 10-3 overall and 6-3 in the SAC. Queens falls to 5-8 overall and 4-5 in the SAC. The Bulldogs host Tusculum College Saturday at 2 p.m. The Royals return home Saturday to entertain Lincoln Memorial University at 2 p.m.

Janitsha Williams (Statesville, N.C.) had 15 points and seven rebounds.

Kayla Harris (Raleigh, N.C.) posted 14 points and seven boards, while sophomore forward
Morgan McGee (Durham, N.C.) contributed 13 points and five rebounds.
Queens sophomore guard
Nikia Squire (Columbia, S.C.) and senior forward
Shonice Pettaway (Walstonburg, N.C.) combined for 41 points and 11 rebounds. Squire had 21 points and five rebounds, while Pettaway added 20 points and six boards. Eight other Queens' players combined for seven points.
McGee hit a jumper to give Wingate a 14-4 lead with 12:19 remaining in the first half. A triple by Williams (6:11) pushed the Bulldog margin to 29-8. The visiting Royals did not hit double figures until two Squire free throws gave Queens 10 points with 2:30 left in the first frame.

Alex Tomlinson (Raleigh, N.C.) gave the hosts their biggest lead at 41-10 with 20 seconds to go. Pettaway nailed a long distance three-point field goal with six seconds left to make the score 41-13 at halftime. Queens shot 20 percent in the first half (five-of-25), while Wingate converted 45 percent of its attempts during the same time frame (18-of-40).
Queens would get no closer than the final margin down the stretch. The two teams basically traded shooting percentages from the first half to the second half. The Royals hit 41.4 percent (12-of-29), while the Bulldogs managed 29.6 percent (eight-of-27). Pettaway and Squire hit three three-point field goals each in the second stanza.

The Bulldogs swept five-of-five specialty statistics categories. Wingate held a whopping 40-10 advantage on points in the paint. The hosts also claimed victories in points off turnovers (19-9), second-chance points (14-1), fast-break points (6-4) and bench points (17-1). The score was tied twice (2-2, 4-4) in the contest's early stages.
