Wingate, N.C.----
The Wingate University women's basketball team looks to continue its winning ways Thursday, as the Bulldogs entertain Coker College for a 6 p.m. South Atlantic Conference contest in Cuddy Arena and Thomas Koontz Family Court. The Bulldogs have eight home victories in nine 2013-14 tries. Wingate is 13-3 overall and 9-3 in the SAC, winners of four consecutive league contests. The Coker Cobras are 9-7 overall and 7-5 in the SAC. Wingate will provide Free HD Video and  live stats.

"Our game against Coker is extremely important," Wingate head coach Ann Hancock says. "Coker is a very explosive team with a balanced attack. They play hard on both ends of the floor, especially defensively. They want to create havoc and play at a fast pace.

Hancock hopes the Bulldogs can cut down on their 17.1 turnovers per game. "It will be crucial for us to take care of the ball against Coker's defensive pressure," Hancock says. "It will certainly be a challenge for us since they are new to the South Atlantic Conference. They have been a good addition to the league."

Wingate seniors Janitsha Williams (Statesville, N.C.) and Kayla Harris (Raleigh, N.C.) posted double-doubles as the Bulldogs shot 55.6 percent in the second half en route to a 65-62 SAC victory over Brevard Saturday in Cuddy Arena and Thomas Koontz Family Court. Williams had 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Harris posted 10 points and a game-high 15. Williams has scored double figures in 22 consecutive games, dating to her junior season.

Harris shares the team scoring lead (with Williams) with her 15.9 points per game. She hauls down a team-leading 9.3 rebounds per game. Her eight double-doubles top the team charts. A USC Aiken transfer, Harris averages a double-double in SAC play with 17.3 points per game and 10.2 rebounds per game in league contests.

Williams and Harris are tied for fifth in the SAC with their individual 15.9 points per game averages. A 2013 All-SAC performer, Williams is second on the Bulldog team with her 7.8 rebounds per game. A very consistent performer, Williams averages an identical 15.9 points per game in SAC contests. On Nov. 11, Williams scored the 1000th point of her career as the Bulldogs defeated UNC Pembroke 61-39.

Bulldog sophomore forward Morgan McGee (Durham, N.C.) averages 8.8 points per game and 5.1 rebounds per game. She earned a spot on the 2013 SAC All-Freshman team. Guards Shelby Tricoli (Waynesville, N.C.) and Amber Neely (Charlotte, N.C.) contribute 7.9 and 7.6 points per game, respectively. Neely pulls down 5.1 rebounds per game and a team-best 4.4 assists per game. Her 2.00 assists-to-turnovers ratio is second on the SAC charts.

Wingate continues to lead the SAC in scoring defense, allowing 60.1 points per game. The Bulldogs top the league charts in field goal percentage defense (34.5 percent) and three-point field goal percentage defense (28.0 percent). Wingate's positive 9.6 scoring margin is also first in the SAC. The Bulldogs average 69.7 points per game.

Coker lost an 80-75 decision to Tusculum Saturday in Hartsville, S.C. Cobra junior guard Tanesha Stenson led the Cobras with 19 points and nine rebounds. Classmate and backcourt mate Heidrun Kristmundsdottir added 13 points and nine rebounds. Junior forward Kelley Godbout (Matthews, N.C.) and junior guard Hailey Yohn (Durham, N.C.) had 11 points each. Godbout played her high school hoops for head coach (and Wingate alum) Ina Thompson at Porter Ridge High School.

Stenson leads the Cobras with 15.8 points per game and 7.4 rebounds per game. Yohn averages 10.3 points per game. Yohn's 40 three-point field goals are third in the league. Coker has 111 three-point field goals as a team, compared to 68 triples for Wingate.
