#20 Bulldogs and Cobras play to 0-0 draw

Wingate, N.C.----The 20th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs registered their first tie of the season Wednesday night, playing to a 0-0 draw against visiting Coker College in South Atlantic Conference men's soccer action Wednesday night. The 'Dogs push their unbeaten streak to six matches, moving to 7-2-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the SAC. Coker moves to 2-4-4 overall and 2-2-2 in the conference.

The first 45 minutes saw the Bulldogs control the match, out-shooting Coker 9-1. Four of those shots were on goal for the Bulldogs, including a pair of shots on target from junior midfielder Shaun Gadsby (Newcastle, England).

Wingate's best chance in the second half came 29 minutes into the half, when a cross in the middle of the box was headed on target by freshman Vicente Munoz (Santiago, Chile). A leaping save was made by Coker goalkeeper Kyndle Cobb.

The Cobras had a chance in the first minute of overtime when Matt Lloyd lined a shot through the box, but Wingate's Stephen Banick (Pickerington, Ohio) was there for the save.

The best chance for either team the entire night came for the Bulldogs with two minutes to go in the first overtime. Gadsby was fouled in the box, giving Wingate a penalty kick. Sophomore Charlie Machell (Newcastle, England) lined one toward the lower left corner, but Cobb was there for the save to keep the Cobras alive.

Wingate had another great opportunity in the first 30 seconds of the second overtime, when a cross in front of the net went to Machell, who went for the right corner of the net but Cobb was just able to get a deflection, forcing a Wingate corner kick.

Coker had the best chances in the final minutes of the second overtime, starting with a Jordan Snell shot being saved by Banick with under four minutes to go. Wingate was called for a pair of fouls just outside the box in the final 90 seconds to setup good chances for Coker, but the Cobras were unable to put a shot on target on either occasion.

The Bulldogs finished the night out-shooting Coker 20-9, holding an 8-5 edge in shots on goal. Machell and freshman midfielder David Fairgrieve (Newcastle, England) each took a match-high four shots.
