FINAL RESULTS

Salisbury, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs had two runners finish in the top seven Saturday morning en route to their second consecutive South Atlantic Conference championship. The Bulldogs finished with 47 points, prevailing by 38 points over second-place Queens. Anderson finished third in the 5K race in Salisbury.

"The women overcame a lot of adversity and challenges and still had enough poise to come through with what they set out to accomplish," SAC women's Coach of the Year Joe Soehnlen says.

Sophomore Alyssa Johnson (San Jose, Calif.) posted a time of 18:59, finishing fourth to earn first team All-SAC honors for the second straight year. Classmate Morgan Neher (Sedalia, Colo.) was seventh with a time of 19:12 to also earn first team all-conference accolades for the second consecutive season.

The Bulldogs had three runners finish 11th through 13th, with all three earning second team All-SAC accolades. Junior Sam Haering (Chalfont, Pa.) led the group with a time of 19:30, one second ahead of freshman Valerie Griesche (Ingolstadt, Germany). Senior Bri Stevens (Coshocton, Ohio) crossed the line two seconds later to finish 13th.

Senior Austin Hoffman (Valdese, N.C.) finished 29th, posting a time of 20:06, while senior Tiana Barnes (Winchester, Calif.) was 33rd, finishing in 20:16.

Lenoir-Rhyne finished fourth Saturday morning, with Lincoln Memorial, Mars Hill, Brevard and Coker rounding out the top eight. Carson-Newman was ninth, followed by Tusculum and Newberry.

Megan Wright of Queens won the race, posting a time of 18:12. She finished 16 seconds ahead of teammate Catie Byrd, while Jessica Viscusi of Mars Hill was third.

The Bulldogs are back in action Nov. 22, traveling to Montevallo, Ala. for the 2014 NCAA Southeast Regionals. Wingate won the race last season to earn a bid to the NCAA national championships.
