Hartsville, S.C.----
Wingate University sophomore guard Amber Neely (Charlotte, N.C.) hit a basket at the buzzer to give the visiting Bulldogs a 54-52 South Atlantic Conference overtime triumph over Coker College Wednesday night at Timberlake-Lawton Gymnasium on the Coker campus. Neely's steal with 3.9 seconds left in the extra frame gave Wingate the opportunity to take the victory.

Wingate has won 10 of its last 11 games to improve to 19-4 overall and 15-4 in the SAC. The Bulldogs remain in a first-place tie (with Lenoir-Rhyne) on the SAC leader board. Coker slips to 11-12 overall and 9-10 in the SAC. The Bulldogs sweep the season series with the SAC newcomers.

Wingate senior forward Kayla Harris (Raleigh, N.C.) posted her SAC-best 11th double-double of the season with 25 points and 14 rebounds. Harris hit a free throw with 0.3 seconds remaining in regulation, tying the game 45-45 and sending it to the eventful overtime. Bulldog senior guard Janitsha Williams (Statesville, N.C.) narrowly missed a double-double of her own with nine points and eight rebounds.

Coker junior guard Tanesha Stenson (Nashville, Tenn.) and senior forward Jessica Cohen (Ladson, S.C.) had 14 points each to lead the Cobras. Cobra junior forward Priscilla Fenty (Hollywood, Fla.) had eight points and a game-high 15 rebounds.

The Cobras scored twice in the first minute of the overtime, as junior forward Kelley Godbout (Matthews, N.C.) and Cohen contributed field goals to give Coker a 49-45 lead at the 4:04 mark. Harris sandwiched two inside baskets around a Cohen steal and lay-up to make the score 51-49 Coker with 84 ticks left on the clock.

After the second Harris hoop, Neely gave Wingate a 52-51 lead on a steal and a traditional three-point play with 1:04 left in overtime. Stenson made one-of-two free throws 10 seconds later to tie the score. The two teams traded turnovers to give Coker the ball with a chance to take the last shot. Neely's game-high fourth steal gave the Bulldogs the ball and the opportunity to sneak out of South Carolina with the victory.

Wingate led 23-20 on an inside hoop by freshman center Alysia Hudson (Jacksonville, N.C.) with 15:51 remaining in the second half. The Cobras answered with an 8-1 run to take a 28-24 lead on a jumper by Fenty. Cohen had two baskets in the eight-point flurry.

The second half featured six tie scores. A Harris lay-up gave Wingate its only lead of the second 20 minutes (40-38) with 2:38 remaining in the second stanza. Stenson converted two-of-two free throws to tie game at the 2:06 plateau. A Wingate turnover followed, allowing Godbout to hit Coker's only three-point field goal of the game with 1:38 left.

Wingate missed a shot on the other end and Coker capitalized as senior guard Jasmine Evans (Birmingham, Ala.) drained two free throws to make the score 45-40 Coker with 1:09 to go in regulation. Harris scored the last five points of regulation, two field goals (00:58 and 00:12) and a game-tying free throw with 0.3 seconds left on the second-half clock.

The Bulldogs led 19-16 at intermission. Wingate hit four-of-six field goals to start the game, but could manage only four conversions in 25 tries afterwards. Harris had six points in the first half to lead the visitors. Stenson scored five points to top the Coker charts.

Both teams have home games Saturday. Wingate hosts Lincoln Memorial Saturday at 2 p.m. The University will honor women's and men's basketball student-athletes, student athletic trainers, cheerleaders and team managers in Senior Day festivities immediately following the conclusion of the 2 p.m. contest.
