Wingate, N.C.----Wingate University sophomore forward Charlie Machell (Newcastle, England) registered his first career hat trick Saturday afternoon, leading the Bulldogs past the visiting Lions of Emmanuel College. The Bulldogs move to 1-1 on the season, while Emmanuel falls to 0-1-1 overall.

Machell got the scoring 20 minutes into the match, taking a pass from freshman defender James Scott (Newcastle, England) and finding the back of the net for the first time this season.

Machell gave the 'Dogs a two-goal lead three minutes into the second half, when freshman midfielder Mateo Correa (Coral Springs, Fla.) served a perfect lead pass to Machell at the right side of the box, who beat the keeper on the right side to make it 2-0.

Emmanuel cut the lead in half four minutes later, when Alex Wright took a misplay by the Wingate defense and netted his first goal of the year to make it 2-1.

Machell had the answer, completing the hat trick in the 58th minute on another perfect pass from Correa.

Wingate added some insurance less than three minutes later, when sophomore defender Alex Nelson (Newcastle, England) scored his first goal of the year off a cross in the box from junior midfielder Liam Gillesphey (Newcastle, England) to make it 4-1.
