Late goal gives Stetson 3-2 win over #10 Wingate

DeLand, Fla.----Stetson University's Danielle Hurme scored with less than five minutes to go in regulation Sunday afternoon, giving the Hatters a 3-2 victory over visiting Wingate University in NCAA women's soccer action. Division I Stetson improves to 1-4-1 overall, while the Bulldogs fall to 0-1-1 on the season.

Wingate got on the board first when sophomore forward Brooke Howell (Charlotte, N.C.) found the back of the net for the third time this season 21 minutes into the contest, with senior All-American Jade Montgomery (Monroe, N.C.) assisting on the play.

Stetson tied it with two minutes remaining in the first half when Autumn Matthews headed one in off a direct kick from Mara Keomanivane.

The Hatters took the lead with 30 minutes remaining in regulation when Eduarda Pavao found the back of the net to make it 2-1.

The Bulldogs  got the equalizer eight minutes later when junior forward AJ Lightbody (Matthews, N.C.) netted her first goal of the year to make it 2-2.

Hurme scored the winner with just under five minutes left in regulation, off a cross from Brianne Boldrin.

Each team finished with 14 shots on the afternoon, while Stetson held a 7-4 edge in shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Ashlyn Hardie (Summerfield, N.C.) had four saves for the Bulldogs. Karlie Hightower notched  a pair of saves for Stetson.

The Bulldogs are back in action Tuesday, hosting UNC Pembroke at 5 p.m.
