Gadsby scores twice as #16 Bulldogs rally for 2-1 win at Lincoln Memorial

Barbourville, Ky.----Wingate University senior midfielder Shaun Gadsby (Newcastle, England) scored a pair of second half goals Sunday afternoon, leading the 16th-ranked Bulldogs to a 2-1 victory at Lincoln Memorial University in South Atlantic Conference men's soccer action. The match was a battle of the only SAC teams without a loss this year. Wingate improves to 8-0-2 overall and 5-0 in the SAC. LMU falls to 6-1-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the conference.

The Railsplitters took a 1-0 lead two minutes into the opening half. Nick Spielman scored his first goal of the year, off assists from George Burne and MJ Sheriff. LMU held a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Wingate scored the tying goal less than two minutes into the second half. A pass from All-American Charlie Machell (Newcastle, England) found Gadsby, who netted his second goal of the year to make it 1-1.

The Bulldogs took the lead in the 78th minute, when Gadsby scored on a free kick from just outside the box, making it 2-1. A first team All-SAC and All-Region selection in 2014, Gadsby now has three goals on the year to go along with his league-best five assists.

Lincoln Memorial held a 14-11 advantage in shots, including a 6-2 edge in shots on goal. The Bulldogs had six corner kicks, compared to LMU's three. Freshman goalkeeper Pablo Jara (Santiago, Chile) had five saves for the Bulldogs. Pedro Ozi did not record a save for LMU.

Wingate is back in action Wednesday, traveling to Coker for a 7 p.m. start.
