Wingate, N.C.----The 19th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs won a pair of five-innings game Tuesday afternoon, sweeping a doubleheader against visiting Queens University in South Atlantic Conference softball action. Wingate won by scores of 12-4 and 8-0 to improve to 13-9 overall and 3-1 in the SAC. Queens falls to 4-18 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

Alexis Burrell (Chesapeake, Va.) had a double, homer and four RBI to lead the Wingate attack. Junior catcher

Mellena Helms (Concord, N.C.) went three-for-four with two RBI and two runs scored.
Wingate got the scoring started in the second, plating six runs. Burrell and Usiak started things with back-to-back solo homers. Helms added an RBI single, while Laskey's two-run single, along with an error made it 6-0.
An RBI single from Helms started the scoring in the third, while Laskey drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 8-0. Burrell added a three-run double, while an RBI single from sophomore infielder
Katie McLaurin (Laurinburg, N.C.) made it 12-0.

Taylor Cheek bases-loaded walk in the fourth put Queens on the board. A Wingate error, along with a
Jasmyn Lindsay two-run double made the final margin 12-4 in the fifth.
Junior right-hander
Stacey Houser (Mooresville, N.C.) got the win, moving to 8-7. She allowed one earned run on six hits in five innings, striking out three and walking three.
Catelyn Presley took the loss, falling to 3-6. She allowed six runs on six hits in 1 2/3 innings.

Wingate jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. A Helms single and Queens error put two on for Burrell, who connected on her ninth homer of the year to put the 'Dogs on top by three.
The Bulldogs scored three more in the second. Helms got it started with a single, then scored on a wild pitch. Usiak added a two-run double to put Wingate on top by six.
Burrell led off the fourth by reaching on an error, then scored on a McLaurin RBI single. Adams started the fifth with a single, then scored on Laskey's RBI single, making it 8-0 and ending the game.
Senior right-hander
Miranda Paul (Virginia Beach, Va.) got the win, moving to 2-1. She allowed just one hit in her five innings of work, a two-out single in the top of the fifth.
Lyndey Mccurry took the loss, falling to 1-6. She allowed seven runs on nine hits in four innings of work.
Wingate is back in action Saturday, hosting a doubleheader against Mars Hill at 1 p.m.
