Hartsville, S.C.----The seventh-seeded Lincoln Memorial University Railsplitters defeated fourth-seeded Wingate University 2-1 Friday afternoon on day two of the 2015 South Atlantic Conference softball tournament. LMU remains alive in the SAC Tournament, improving to 24-23 overall. Wingate is eliminated from the tournament, falling to 27-20. The Bulldogs will now await word on a possible at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Amanda Snow was two-for-two with a homer and two RBI to lead the LMU attack.
Kelly Dreier went one-for-three with a run scored for the Railsplitters.
Sophomore infielder
Katie McLaurin (Laurinburg, N.C.) was one-for-two with a homer to lead the Wingate offense. Senior shortstop
Alexis Burrell (Chesapeake, Va.) went one-for-two with a double for the Bulldogs.
Lincoln Memorial took a 1-0 lead in the first. Dreier reached on a one-out double, then scored on an RBI single from Snow. Snow connected on a solo homer in the third to put the Railsplitters on top 2-0.
Burrell ripped a two-out double to right in the sixth, but was stranded there.
Wingate got on the board in the seventh, when McLaurin connected on her fifth homer of the year, a solo shot to left to make it 2-1.
Samantha Smith got the win for LMU, improving to 12-12. She allowed a run on five hits in seven innings, striking out three and walking two. Junior right-hander
Stacey Houser (Mooresville, N.C.) took the loss, falling to 19-14. She allowed two runs on four hits in three innings, striking out one and walking one.
