Stacey Houser (Mooresville, N.C.) collected five strikeouts in a one-hit shutout as the Bulldogs finished a solid weekend at the Mid-South Classic. Wingate defeated Saint Joseph's 4-0 to start the day, while capping the weekend with a 2-0 win over Augusta. The Bulldogs went 5-1 on the weekend, moving to 9-3 overall.

Jordan Wilson (Gastonia, N.C.) collected a pair of hits and scored a run.
Wingate got on the board in the second, with a walk, single and flyout putting runners on second and third with two outs for Sapp. The freshman lined a two-run single to right to put the Bulldogs on the board.
Wingate scored two more in the third. A single, walk and flyout put runners on second and third for Doran, who lined a double down the left field line to make it 4-0.
That would be plenty for Weidner, who moved to 2-2 on the year. The freshman had two strikeouts in the first inning, two more in the second and three in the third. After a strikeout in the fourth and another in the fifth, Weidner struck out the final two hitters of the game. She allowed just one single on the day, while walking two.
Morgan Masters took the loss, falling to 1-2. She allowed four runs on five hits in three innings, striking out one and walking two.

Mellena Helms (Concord, N.C.) was two-for-two with an RBI to lead the offense, while Doran added a hit and an RBI for the Bulldogs. Sapp and senior catcher
Taylor Laskey (Cherryville, N.C.) each contributed a hit and a run scored for Wingate.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first when Laskey scored on an RBI single from Doran.
Wingate took a 2-0 lead in the fourth when Sapp reached on a two-out single, then scored on a Helms RBI single.
That would be plenty for Houser. The three-time All-SAC selection did not allow a base runner until a two-out single in the sixth. She struck out two in the first and two more in the second. After hitting the lead-off hitter in the seventh, Houser ended the game by inducing a popout and lineout before striking out the game's final hitter.
Houser moves to 7-1 on the season, notching her fourth victory of the weekend. She allowed just the one single while striking out five without walking a batter.
Emily Hittinger took the loss, falling to 1-3. She allowed two runs on seven hits in six innings.
Wingate is back in action on Saturday, traveling to North Georgia to take on the defending national champions. The 'Dogs will face North Georgia and UVA Wise for two games each next weekend.
