Harrogate, Tenn.----The Lincoln Memorial University Railsplitters took game one of Saturday's South Atlantic Conference baseball doubleheader 12-4, while the Bulldogs responded with an 11-0 victory in game two. Wingate moves to 15-9 overall and 2-4 in the SAC, while LMU is now 15-6 overall and 7-2 in the conference.
Game One: Lincoln Memorial 12, Wingate 4Mason Ewers had two homers and six RBI to lead the Lincoln Memorial offense in game one.
H.D. Dillard added a homer and two RBI, while
Russell Clark had three hits, an RBI and two runs scored.
Timmy Wages added an RBI and a run scored for the Railsplitters, while
Seth Hunt also drove in a run.
Junior infielder
Colby Barnette (Monroe, N.C.) had a homer and two RBI to lead the Wingate attack. Freshman
Austin Turgeon (Athens, Ga.) also homered, while classmate
Zach Little (Troutman, N.C.) was three-for-five with an RBI for the Bulldogs.
Wingate took a 1-0 lead in the first on Barnette's sacrifice fly. LMU responded with six runs in the second. Ewers provided the first big blow with a three-run homer, while a two-run shot from Dillard made it 6-1.
Little's RBI single in the third got Wingate within four. The Railsplitters took a 9-2 lead in the bottom of the frame when Ewers connected on his second three-run homer of the game.
Barnette led off the sixth with a solo shot, while Turgeon's solo homer later in the frame made it 9-4.
LMU regained a six-run lead in the sixth on Hunt's sacrifice fly. Clark's RBI double in the seventh made it 11-4, while a Wingate error allowed the final run of the game to score later in the frame.
Ethan Elliott got the win, moving to 5-0 on the year. He allowed four runs on nine hits in six innings of work, striking out four. Sophomore left-hander
Kory Behenna (Bahama, N.C.) took the loss, falling to 2-3. He allowed five runs on four hits in 1 1/3 innings, striking out one and walking two.
Game Two: Wingate 11, Lincoln Memorial 0Senior outfielder
Bill Krebs (West Chester, Pa.) was three-for-three with two homers, three RBI and four runs scored to lead the Wingate attack in game two. Junior outfielder
Shane Billings (Kernersville, N.C.) added a homer, two RBI and two runs scored, while freshman catcher
Andrew Llewellyn (Moseley, Va.) contributed a homer and two RBI. Barnette had a triple and two RBI, while freshman
Reece Daniel (Asheboro, N.C.) added a hit and two runs scored.
Billings and Krebs drew walks to start the game, while RBI singles from Barnette and
Bradley Brown (Rockingham, N.C.) helped the 'Dogs take a 3-0 lead.
Llewellyn led off the second with a solo homer to push the lead to four. Krebs added a two-run shot later in the frame to make it 6-0.
Turgeon lined a one-out double in the third, then scored on Llewellyn's RBI groundout to push the lead to seven. A two-run homer from Billings two batters later pushed the lead to nine. Krebs followed with a double, then scored on Barnette's RBI single to make it 10-0.
Krebs connected on his second homer of the day and team-best seventh of the season in the fifth, a solo shot to make it 11-0.
Junior right-hander
Brandon Donahue (Charlotte, N.C.) got the win, moving to 4-1. After tossing a complete game three-hit shutout last week, Donahue worked five shutout innings at LMU, allowing just one hit while striking out four and walking one.
Matt Mullenbach took the loss, allowing three runs on two hits while walking two without recording an out.
Wingate is back in action Tuesday, hosting Francis Marion at 4 p.m.
