Wingate, N.C.--- Wingate University freshman attack
Ryan Ormerod (Lake Mary, Fla.) netted three goals along with two assists to lead the Bulldog offense as WU earned a 13-3 home win over the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Graham Gill Field at the Irwin Belk Track Complex Wednesday night. Wingate improves to 5-5 overall, while Alabama-Huntsville falls to 1-4 overall.
"It was good to see different guys in different roles," Wingate assistant coach
Matt Schunk says. "We got some guys additional repetitions tonight and they answered the bell."
"Tonight was a total team effort," Schunk says. "Our offense moved the ball quickly and we had many different guys score. Overall, we played with poise."
The Bulldogs struck first to take an early 1-0 lead on Ormerod's first goal of the evening with 8:02 left in the first quarter. The Chargers tied up the contest at 1-1 a little over a minute later on a tally from freshman attack

The 'Dogs then jumped out to a 2-1 advantage on a score from freshman midfielder

Kenan Reed (Winston-Salem, N.C.) dished out the first of his four assists on the play. The tally by Godwin ended up being the game-winner for the Bulldogs as they commenced a run of seven unanswered goals to take an 8-1 lead with 2:46 remaining in the second quarter. The seventh tally of the run was scored by Godwin to give the true freshman a team-leading 17 goals on the season.
Alabama-Huntsville ended the Wingate consecutive goal streak on a score from freshman midfielder
Quincy Ward (Lawrenceville, Ga.) to make it an 8-2 contest with 49 seconds left in the first half of play. The Bulldogs would maintain the 8-2 advantage going into the halftime break.
Wingate would answer with four more unanswered insurance goals to gain a 12-2 advantage with 12:24 remaining in the fourth quarter of play. The second goal of the streak was scored by sophomore midfielder
Brennan Asplen (St. Augustine, Fla.) on his second tally of the season and the third goal was netted by senior midfielder
Andrew Gobble (Huntersville, N.C.) on the first score of his final season in the Navy Blue and Vegas Gold.

Wylie Mendicino (Dyke, Va.) won seven-of-12 face-offs to give the hosts a 10-9 advantage in face-off victories.
"Our face-off rhythm was good in the second half," Schunk says. "We had many different guys step up to the plate tonight. We will need all hands on deck as we resume conference play Saturday."

Will Sheridan (Woodstock, Ga.) earned his first start of the season for the Bulldogs and played for a total of 30 minutes. He recorded one save on the evening and picked up the win. Sheridan was replaced by junior goalie
Michael Connor (Stockport, England) who also played for 30 minutes. Connor posted three saves.
The Wingate men's lacrosse team will be back in action on Saturday when they hit the road to Hartsville, S.C. to take on South Atlantic Conference foe the Coker College Cobras. First face-off is slated for 7 p.m. The University of Alabama in Huntsville is also back in action on Saturday when they return home to face Colorado State University at Pueblo for a noon contest.
