Sophomore outfielder Morgan Hendrix (Mocksville, N.C.) went one-for-three with a triple to lead the Wingate attack in game one. Senior infielder Emily Usiak (Matthews, N.C.) added a double for the Bulldogs.

Wingate threatened early with a Hendrix one-out triple in the top of the first, but Carson-Newman starter Allison Webster got out of the jam with back-to-back strikeouts. Usiak added a two-out double in the second, but was stranded when Webster notched another strikeout.

Carson-Newman scored the lone run of the game in the fifth. Siebert got it started with a two-out single, then scored on Dean's RBI double down the left field line.
