Wingate, N.C.----Wingate University senior right-hander
Stacey Houser (Mooresville, N.C.) tossed a no-hitter in game one of Saturday's South Atlantic Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon, leading the Bulldogs to a sweep against visiting Tusculum College. Wingate won game one 7-0, while prevailing 11-3 in five innings in game two. The 'Dogs have won seven straight SAC games, improving to 24-12 overall and 9-5 in the SAC. The Pioneers fall to 17-25 overall and 3-11 in the conference.
Game One: Wingate 7, Tusculum 0Houser faced just two more than the minimum in her no-hitter, walking one and hitting a pair of batters, one of which was erased when she was caught stealing. Houser struck out six on the day, allowing just two balls to get to the outfield.
Senior infielder
Mellena Helms (Concord, N.C.) was three-for-four with a double, grand slam and four RBI, scoring two runs to lead the Wingate attack. Freshman outfielder
Naomi Sapp (Guyton, Ga.) added an RBI and a run scored, while junior infielder
Misty Doran (Century, Fla.) had two hits and an RBI for the Bulldogs. Senior outfielder
Shannen Adams (Ayden, N.C.) was three-for-three with two runs scored.
Wingate took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on Sapp's RBI single to left center.
The Bulldogs scored four times in the fourth to make it 5-0. Junior infielder
Katie McLaurin (Laurinburg, N.C.) started the inning with a double, while a hit batsman and Adams single loaded the bases for Helms. The senior crushed the first pitch over the fence in right field for a grand slam, notching her team-best eighth homer of the season.
Singles from Adams and Helms, followed by a sacrifice put runners on second and third with one out in the Wingate sixth. An error allowed Adams to score, while Doran's RBI single plated Helms, making it 7-0.
Houser induced a groundout, popout and groundout in the top of the seventh to finish off her no-hitter. She retired the last eight hitters of the game, moving to 13-9 on the season.
Eliza Davis took the loss, falling to 8-13. She allowed five runs on six hits in 3 1/3 innings, striking out one and walking one.
Game Two: Wingate 11, Tusculum 3 (5 innings)Senior catcher
Taylor Laskey (Cherryville, N.C.) went three-for-three with two doubles and three RBI to lead the Wingate offense in game two. Sophomore outfielder
Morgan Hendrix (Mocksville, N.C.) added two hits, three RBI and two runs scored, while Doran and McLaurin each contributed an RBI and a run scored for the Bulldogs.
Wingate jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first. Helms led off the frame with a triple off the fence in right, then scored on a Hendrix RBI single. Laskey's RBI double off the top of the fence in left center plated Hendrix, making it 2-0. Sapp would score on a Tusculum error in the second to give the 'Dogs a three-run advantage.
The Pioneers got on the board in the third inning, getting a
Miranda Beeler RBI single and a Wingate error to make it a one-run game at 3-2.
The Bulldogs had the answer, scoring seven times in the bottom of the third. Doran plated the first run with an RBI single, while McLaurin's RBI single put the 'Dogs back on top by three. An RBI groundout from Adams made it 6-2, while a two-run single from Hendrix pushed the lead to six. Laskey's two-run single down the left field line capped the scoring in the frame, giving Wingate a 10-2 edge.

Jordan Wilson (Gastonia, N.C.) in the fourth to make it 11-2. An RBI double from
Carolyn Williamson in the top of the fifth made the final margin 11-3.
Houser notched her second win of the day and 14th of the year, allowing an earned run on two hits in three innings, striking out one and walking one.
Taylor Plemons took the loss, falling to 2-6. She allowed five runs on five hits in two innings, striking out one.
Wingate is back in action Wednesday, hosting a doubleheader against Newberry at 1 p.m.
