St. Augustine, Fla.----The Wingate University Bulldogs picked up two more wins Saturday on the final day of the Flagler Saints Classic in NCAA Division II volleyball action. Wingate started the day with a 3-1 win over King, while capping another perfect weekend with a thrilling 3-2 victory over host Flagler. The Bulldogs defeated King 25-18, 25-23, 15-25 and 25-19, while topping Flagler 25-15, 11-25, 21-25, 25-23 and 15-9 to move to 8-0 on the season, with four wins over NCAA Tournament teams from 2015. King falls to 0-6, while the Saints move to 4-2.

"This was a particularly tough match for us today," head coach
Shelton Collier says. "Abby Saehler and Katie Bludau had good offensive performances, but King shut down the rest of our team, which was a credit to them and something we can learn from that will help us develop as a team."

Lynnlee Mather (McDonough, Ga.) contributed seven kills and four blocks, while classmate
Rachel Alles (Tinley Park, Ill.) had 35 assists, 10 digs and three kills. Freshman
Treslyn Ortiz (Texas City, Texas) and sophomore
Kimberly Hovey (Raleigh, N.C.) collected 10 digs apiece for the Bulldogs.
Kills from Saehler and Mather gave the 'Dogs an early 7-3 lead in set one. King cut the lead to two at 9-7, but a Bludau kill and Mather block made it 16-10. Two kills each from Saehler and Williams put the Bulldogs on top 22-14, while another Williams kill made it 24-18. Bludau capped the set with a kill.
Five consecutive Wingate errors gave King an 11-7 lead in set two. Kills from Williams and Bludau cut the lead to one, while two more Bludau kills made it 15-15. Saehler and Williams traded kills in a 4-1 run that gave the 'Dogs a 19-17 advantage, while a kill from Bludau made it 23-19. Three consecutive Bulldog errors made it 23-22, but a Bludau kill made it 24-22. A kill from
Emma Carico got King back within one, but Mather and Bludau teamed for a block to cap the set.
A kill and a block from
Becca Huddleston helped the Tornado jump out to an 11-6 lead in set three. Three consecutive kills from
Cathy Scaniffe made it 18-8, while another Scaniffe kill, along with a
Jenna Sturgeon kill made it 24-15. Scaniffe capped the set with a kill.
A
Haley Roe ace gave King a 10-7 lead in set four, but a Bludau kill and Alles ace tied it at 13. A Scaniffe kill put King back on top by two, but a Saehler block made it 18-17. A Huddleston kill gave the Tornado a 19-17 advantage, but Wingate responded with an emphatic 8-0 run to end the match.
Tyler Smith (Aiken, S.C.) started the spurt with a kill and a block to tie it, while a King error and Alles kill made it 21-19. Bludau added a kill to make it 23-19, while back-to-back King errors ended the match.
Wingate hit .174 for the match, with 48 kills and 25 errors in 132 attacks. King had 47 kills and 27 errors in 128 attacks, hitting .156. Mather had a match-high four blocks, while Smith added three blocks for the Bulldogs. Alles collected two of Wingate's four aces.

"This was one of the most impressive, hard-fought wins we have ever had at Wingate," Collier says. "Flagler played great and we had to bring something special to win on their home court in such an intense, well-played match. We are really proud of having so many players step up big tonight."
Saehler tied a career-high with 18 kills to lead the Bulldogs, adding 14 digs, a block and an ace. Sophomore
Oakley Attaway (Orlando, Fla.) contributed 11 kills and 13 digs, while Bludau and Smith added eight kills apiece. Alles had 43 assists, 11 digs and three kills, while Ortiz and Hovey collected 13 and 12 digs, respectively.
Wingate used a 5-0 run to take an 11-4 lead in set one, getting three Attaway kills and two Saehler kills in the spurt. Kills from Alles and Saehler, followed by a Bludau ace made it 17-9. Kills from Smith and Saehler pushed the lead to nine, while a 4-0 run made it 24-12, with Attaway notching a kill and an ace in the flurry. Smith ended the frame with a block. The Bulldogs piled up 16 kills in set one, holding the Saints to six kills and a hitting percentage of .022.
Flagler jumped out to a 5-1 lead in set two and never looked back. An Alles block got Wingate within two, but a 4-0 run made it 12-6. The Saints added a 6-0 run to take a 21-10 lead, getting a kill and a block from
Sara Davis in the flurry. A Davis ace made it 24-11, while
Ashley Cheewah ended the set with a kill.
Back-to-back kills from
Megan Hooks gave Flagler a 10-6 lead in set three. Kills from Saehler and
Anna Holmquist (Lincoln, Nebr.) cut the lead to one, but a
Jenea Reddick kill made it 16-13. Kills from Saehler and Alles, followed by a Flagler error tied it at 17. Kills from Smith and Bludau gave the Bulldogs a 20-19 lead, but the Saints countered with a 5-0 run to go on top 24-20. Hooks started the spurt with a kill and an ace. A kill from
Genel Sturgeon ended the set, giving Flagler a 2-1 lead in the match.
Two kills and a block from Hooks gave Flagler a 7-3 lead in the fourth set. Kills from Attaway and Smith trimmed the lead to one, but a 5-0 Flagler run made it 16-10. Reddick and Davis each had a kill and a block in the flurry. Wingate had the answer, scoring the next six points to tie it. Bludau started the spurt with a kill, while Ortiz added two aces. The Saints scored five of the next six points, going on top 21-17 on a Hooks kill. A kill from Mather cut the lead to one, but a Wingate error gave the Saints a 22-20 advantage. Back-to-back Saehler kills tied it at 22, while a block from Saehler and Smith, along with a Flagler error put the 'Dogs on top 24-22. Saehler ended the frame with a kill.
The Bulldogs used a huge 7-0 run to take a 12-4 lead in the fifth set. Attaway started the flurry with a kill, while two Flagler errors and an Attaway ace made it 9-4. Bludau followed with back-to-back kills, while another Attaway ace pushed the lead to eight. A Reddick kill got the Saints within four at 13-9, but a Flagler error made it 14-9. Mather and Bludau ended the match with a block.
Wingate hit .133 in the match, with 52 kills and 28 errors in 181 attacks. Flagler had 52 kills and 22 errors in 167 attacks, hitting .180. Smith led the Bulldogs with three blocks, while Attaway had four of Wingate's 10 aces.
The Bulldogs are back in action Tuesday, hosting Coker at 7 p.m. to open SAC play.
