Bulldogs fall 88-65 at #4 Lincoln Memorial

Harrogate, Tenn.----The fourth-ranked Lincoln Memorial University Railsplitters remained perfect on the season, defeating visiting Wingate University 88-65 in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action Wednesday night. The Railsplitters improve to 10-0 overall and 4-0 in the SAC, while the Bulldogs fall to 4-6 overall and 2-1 in league play.

Cornelius Taylor had 18 points, four rebounds and three assists to lead the LMU offense. Trevon Shaw added 17 points and five boards, while Dorian Pinson compiled 14 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists. Emanuel Terry added 14 points and five rebounds, while Deshawn Patterson had 13 points.

Graduate student point guard Kerigan Farley (Hickory, N.C.) had a career-high 15 points to lead the Wingate offense, adding six rebounds and two assists. Junior guard Marco Haskins (Fredericksburg, Va.) had 12 points, three rebounds and three steals, while freshman guard Kendrick Tucker (Roanoke, Va.) had a career-high 11 points, while senior guard Zeriq Lolar (Orlando, Fla.) contributed seven points and four boards.

Buckets from Pinson and Patterson gave Lincoln Memorial a 12-3 lead seven minutes into the first half, with the Bulldogs going five minutes without a point. A Charlie Hovasse (Colorado Springs, Colo.) three and Farley bucket got the Bulldogs within six at 16-10, but a triple from Taylor made it 21-10 at the midway point of the opening half. A Lolar three and Farley bucket got the Bulldogs back within seven, but LMU closed the half on a 16-4 run, getting a Taylor three in the final seconds to take a 42-23 halftime lead.

A Taylor bucket three minutes into the second half gave the Railsplitters a 52-27 advantage. Pinson's layup extended the lead to 27, but a Farley bucket and Jeremy Williams (Salem, Va.) three made it 57-37 at the 12:58 mark. LMU scored the next seven points, taking a 64-37 lead on Terry's putback with 11 minutes to go. A Tucker three and Devarious Christian (Charlotte, N.C.) three-point play got the Bulldogs within 17 at the 4:30 mark, but a dunk from Terry two minutes later pushed the lead back to 22.

LMU, who leads the nation in field goal percentage, shot 57 percent from the field on the night, hitting six-of-17 shots from three-point range (35 percent). The 88 points ties a season low for LMU, who is coming off a SAC-record 156 points Monday night, hitting a league-record 30 triples. Wingate shot 35 percent from the field, hitting seven-of-28 shots from beyond the arc (25 percent). The Railsplitters held a 43-29 rebounding advantage and 44-26 edge in points in the paint. Wingate converted 14 LMU turnovers into 19 points, while the 'Dogs committed just eight turnovers on the night.

Wingate is back in action Saturday, hosting Tusculum at 4 p.m.
