Bulldogs roll to 66-42 victory at Johnson C. Smith

Box Score Charlotte, N.C.----The Wingate University jumped out to a 22-8 first quarter lead Saturday afternoon en route to a 66-42 victory at Johnson C. Smith in NCAA Division II women's basketball action. The Bulldogs improve to 2-2 on the season, while the Golden Bulls fall to 0-3 overall.

Wingate shot 47.3 percent from the field, holding JCSU to 24 percent shooting on the afternoon. The Bulldogs hit four-of-10 shots from three-point range, while Johnson C. Smith hit just two-of-22 shots from beyond the arc. The 'Dogs had nine steals on the day, forcing 20 turnovers while holding a 45-33 rebounding advantage.

Courtney Robinson had 13 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals to lead the Bulldogs, hitting five-of-seven shots from the field. Caroline Averette also had 13 points, adding two assists and two steals while Danasia Witherspoon contributed 10 points and five boards. Makenzie Crump added eight points for the Bulldogs, while Teliyah Jeter pulled down nine rebounds.

Wingate led 22-8 after the first quarter, but the Golden Bulldogs outscored WU 22-15 in the second quarter to get within seven at halftime. The Bulldogs dominated the third quarter 21-7 to stretch the lead to 58-37. Wingate held Johnson C. Smith to just five points in the final frame.

The Bulldogs are back in action Tuesday, hosting Lander at 7 p.m.
