Bulldogs ride 10-run sixth inning to 11-0 victory at Flagler

St. Augustine, Fla.----The Wingate University Bulldogs blew open a tight game in the top of the sixth inning Saturday afternoon, scoring 10 runs on eight hits in the frame en route to an 11-0 victory at Flagler College in NCAA Division II baseball action. Wingate remains perfect on the year, moving to 6-0 overall, while the Saints fall to 3-2 on the year.

Junior catcher Andrew Llewellyn (Moseley, Va.) went three-for-four with three RBI and two runs scored to lead the Wingate offense. Junior outfielder Austin Turgeon (Athens, Ga.) was two-for-four with a double and two RBI, while junior infielder Tyler Schneider (Richland, Ind.) added a hit, two RBI and two runs scored. Freshman outfielder Justin Guy (Greensboro, N.C.) contributed a pair of hits while driving in a run and scoring a run, while senior Ty Andrus (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and junior Zach Little (Troutman, N.C.) each collected a hit, RBI and run scored for the Bulldogs.

Wingate got on the board in the fourth when sophomore infielder McCann Mellett (Charlotte, N.C.) led off the frame with a single, then scored on Llewellyn's RBI single.

The Bulldogs piled it on in the sixth, which started with a Schneider walk and Tanner Forry (York, Pa.) double to put runners on second and third. Llewellyn and Little started the scoring with RBI singles, while a Flagler error and Guy RBI single made it 5-0. An RBI single from Andrus pushed the lead to six, while Schneider delivered a two-run single to make it 8-0. Llewellyn's second RBI single of the frame plated the eighth run of the inning, while Turgeon drove in the ninth and 10th runs of the frame with a two-run double to make it 11-0.

That would be plenty for senior right-hander Hunter Hamilton (Troy, N.C.), who tossed six shutout innings to move to 1-0 on the year. He allowed just three hits on the day, throwing 78 pitches while striking out three and allowing just one extra-base hit. Sawyer Lee (Norwood, N.C.), Danny Dunning (Mint Hill, N.C.) and Riley Isenhour (Kernersville, N.C.) each contributed one inning of scoreless relief to preserve the shutout, combining for five strikeouts.

Wingate wraps up its Florida trip Sunday morning, taking on Valdosta State at 11 a.m.
