#20 Wingate opens NCAA tournament play versus Columbus State Friday at 2:30 p.m.

Jefferson City, Tenn.----The NCAA Division II number 20 Wingate University women's basketball team (25-5 overall) faces Columbus State University (19-9 overall) in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional tournament in Carson-Newman's Holt Field House (live statistics; live video; tournament central). Tip-off is slated for 2:30 p.m.

Wingate enters the NCAA Tournament at 25-5 overall after going 17-3 in SAC play. The Bulldogs finished second in the conference regular season standings, while advancing to Sunday's SAC Tournament championship game before falling 79-70 against sixth-ranked Carson-Newman.

WINGATE NOTES
 
-Wingate and Columbus State's last meeting was March 11, 2016 in the first round of the NCAA regionals at Limestone. The CSU Cougars claimed a 79-72 decision. Wingate center Marta Miscenko (Riga, Latvia) topped the Bulldog charts with 19 points.
-Miscenko is the SAC Co-Player of the Year. Miscenko is a first team All-SAC selection as well. Two WU teammates earn second team All-SAC laurels: junior guard Caroline Averette (Midlothian, Va.) and junior forward Danasia Witherspoon (Hickory, N.C.).
-Miscenko leads the Bulldogs with 16.5 points per game, 7.7 rebounds per game and 2.6 blocks per game. Averette (13.4 points per game) and Witherspoon (9.9 points per game) are next on the Wingate scoring charts.

-Wingate leads the SAC with 16 appearances in the NCAA Division II national tournament.
-The Bulldogs have an overall NCAA tourney record of 18-16 with Elite Eight appearances in 1995, 1996 and 2008.
