Cayce, S.C.----The 10th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs went 4-0 in singles play Saturday afternoon, overcoming a 2-1 deficit through doubles to down No. 15 Queens University 5-2 in the championship match of the 2018 South Atlantic Conference men's tennis tournament. Wingate improves to 19-5 overall, claiming the fourth tournament title in program history, all coming since 2012. Queens falls to 13-4 on the season.

Michael Cabana says. "They played so well going into singles after getting down 2-1. They never gave up, they fought for each other and they left everything on the court. It's a great feeling and just happy for this group of guys."
Wingate's first team All-SAC doubles duo of
Daniel Belsito (Charlotte, N.C.) and
Josh DuToit (Charlotte, N.C.) won 8-4 at number one doubles, but the Royals picked up victories at two and three doubles to take a 2-1 lead heading to singles play.
Wingate sophomore
Tamir Geva (Jerusalem, Israel) tied the match with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at number six singles. Belsito, the SAC Player of the Year, picked up a 6-2, 6-4 victory at number one singles to give the Bulldogs a 3-2 lead. DuToit put Wingate on the brink at number five singles, rolling to a 6-1, 6-2 victory to make it 4-2. The senior was named the SAC Tournament MVP. He went 3-0 at number one doubles and number five singles in the tournament.
It was the freshman
Enrico Giacomini (Vicenza, Italy) who won the clincher at number four singles. He won the first set 7-5, while taking set two 6-3 to give Wingate the title. Freshman
Matthew Jones (Shrewsbury, United Kingdom) had the lead in the third set at two singles when the match was clinched, while classmate
Josep Canyadell (Lleida, Spain) led 5-3 in set two after dropping set one at three singles.
The victory gives Wingate an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs will be back in the tournament for the first time since the 2015 season.
