#9 Wingate’s season comes to an end with 5-1 setback at #3 Columbus State

Columbus, Ga.----The ninth-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs picked up a victory at number three doubles Tuesday afternoon, but fell 5-1 against third-ranked Columbus State University in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Cougars improve to 24-3 overall, advancing to the Sweet 16 in Arizona, while the Bulldogs end their season at 20-6.

Wingate's number three doubles team of sophomore Tamir Geva (Jerusalem, Israel) and freshman Josep Canyadell (Lleida, Spain) prevailed 8-5, but Columbus State won 8-1 at one doubles and 8-3 at three doubles to take a 2-1 lead heading to singles play.

Columbus State won at two, five and six singles to clinch the victory. SAC Player of the Year Daniel Belsito (Charlotte, N.C.) won the first set 6-3 against the nation's second-ranked player. He was in the second set when the match was clinched. Senior Josh DuToit (Charlotte, N.C.) had a 6-5 lead in the first set at number four singles for the Bulldogs.
