Wingate, N.C.----The number one Queens University of Charlotte earned a hard-fought 149-113 Bluegrass Mountain Conference men's swimming victory over number 20 Wingate University Friday evening at the WU Natatorium (complete results). The five-time defending national champions won 11 of the 14 events contested with sophomore Alex Kunert (Berlin, Germany) claiming four victories.
 
Kunert started his day swimming the third leg of the Royals' triumphant 400 Medley Relay quartet. Queens posted a gold-medal time of 3:20.56. Individually, Kunert touched first in the 200 Butterfly (new pool record 1:48.49), the 100 Freestyle (45.37) and the 200 Butterfly (48.82). Nine of the 14 races were decided by one second or less. Queens won seven of those nine contests.
 
BMC Swimmer of the Week and Wingate junior Iran Almeida (Roanoke, Va.) won the 50 Freestyle with a new pool record time of 20.79. Bulldog classmate David Granados Doblas (Olot, Spain) set a new pool record on his way to victory in the 200 Backstroke (1:50.49). WU senior Giacomo Viazzo (Lonato del Gardo, Italy) touched first in the 200 Breaststroke with his triumphant time of 2:03.52.
 
Queens concluded the evening by winning the 400 Freestyle Relay by 0.02 seconds. The Royals posted a time of 3:06.91. Wingate's quartet recorded a time of 3:06.93. Bulldog team members included freshmen Marcel Snitko (Bad Zwischenahn, Germany) and Frederik Oscar Moller (Chalottenlund, Denmark), junior Aaron Bowman (Thomasville, N.C.) and senior captain Markus Furst (Jönköping, Sweden).
