Bulldogs use huge fourth quarter to take down Eagles on the road

Box Score Jefferson City, Tenn.----The Wingate University Bulldogs outscored Carson-Newman University 28-14 in the fourth quarter Saturday afternoon, with six different players scoring in double figures in a 95-89 road victory over the Eagles in South Atlantic Conference women's basketball action inside Holt Fieldhouse. The Bulldogs improve to 6-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play, while the Eagles falling to 5-3 overall and 1-1 in the SAC.

KEY STATS

- Wingate shot 57.8 percent from the field on the afternoon, Carson-Newman shot 41.7 percent
- The Bulldogs shot 62 percent (eight-for-13) from three-point range, the Eagles shot 40 percent from beyond the arc (14-for-35)

- The Bulldogs had a dominant 46-30 edge in points in the paint

FIRST QUARTER

- Saylor's layup three minutes in got Wingate within one at 6-5
- A Kelci Marosites three gave the Eagles a 15-11 lead at the 4:27 mark
- The 'Dogs ended the quarter on a 17-3 run
- Stephan had six points in the spurt, while Coleman added five points
- Clark's bucket in the final seconds gave WU a 28-19 lead

SECOND QUARTER


- Tori Griffin's layup cut Wingate's lead to three at the 7:40 mark
- A Jaxson Douglas triple with 6:10 remaining gave WU a 34-32 advantage
- Midway through the frame a Braelyn Wykle bucket gave CN a 41-39 edge
- With just under three minutes remaining a Clark layup tied it at 41
- As time ran out, a Chanler Geer three gave the Eagles the two-point halftime lead

THIRD QUARTER

- The Bulldogs came out hot to start the second half scoring the first five points off a Clark three and Jeter layup
- The Eagles answered with an 11-3 run, with a Griffin three making it 68-57 at the 4:15 mark
- Wingate got a Jeter three-point play with 31 second remaining to make it 74-65
- Jeter added a pair of free throws in the final seconds to get WU within eight heading to the fourth

FOURTH QUARTER

- Wingate outscored Carson-Newman 28-14 in the final frame
- A 7-0 run got the 'Dogs within two, with a pair of Maeola Willis buckets making it 80-78
- Wykle's bucket put CN on top by three with just under five minutes to go
- Buckets from Wilson and Willis put Wingate on top, while Coleman's jumper made it 86-83 at the 2:10 mark
- Wykle drained a three to tie it, but the Bulldogs had the answer
- A Bryanna Troutman three was followed by a Stephen triple to make it 92-86 with a minute left
- Jeter and Coleman combined to make three free throws down the stretch to ice it
