Wingate pulls away in second half for 78-55 victory over Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras

Box Score Bayamon, Puerto Rico----The Wingate University Bulldogs outscored Puerto Rico Rio-Piedras 46-29 in the second half Wednesday evening en route to a 78-55 victory in their second game of the 2019 Puerto Rico Clasico inside the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez. The Bulldogs improve to 9-2 overall, pushing their winning streak to five.

- Wingate shot 54.4 percent from the field on the afternoon, Rio Piedras shot 30.9 percent
- The Bulldogs shot 50 percent (seven-for-14) from three-point range, UPRRP shot 37 percent from beyond the arc (11-for-30)
- The 'Dogs went 12-for-13 from the field in the third quarter
- WU held a 43-26 rebounding advantage
- The Bulldogs dominated in points in the paint with a 38-12 edge
- The 'Dogs held an 8-6 advantage in second-chance points
- Rio Piedras turned the ball over 17, WU only turned the ball over 14 times
- Wingate converted those 17 turnovers into 17 points

Taylor Blakely had a career-high 21 points, adding two assists, while going eight-for-13 from the field
- Elana Ingram had nine points, seven rebounds and an assist
Bryanna Troutman added nine points, six boards and a steal
Hannah Clark contributed nine points, two rebounds, three assists and two steals
Destiny Coleman had seven points, five rebounds, six assists, and three steals
- Every Bulldog that saw action scored

NOTES

- This was the first ever meeting between the two teams
- WU is 4-0 all-time in Puerto Rico
- Second highest scoring game of the season for Wingate
- Third time this season the Bulldogs have gone 50% or better from beyond the arc
- All three times they have made at least seven threes
