70 IN A ROW!! #19 Wingate blanks Mars Hill to extend historic SAC winning streak

Wingate, N.C.----Wingate University's historic winning streak continued Monday afternoon, as the 19th-ranked Bulldogs opened conference play with a 7-0 victory over Mars Hill University in South Atlantic Conference women's tennis action. The eight-time defending regular season SAC champs win their 70th consecutive league match, improving to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in the SAC. The Lions fall to 7-4 overall and 0-2 in league play.

DOUBLES

- Wingate's number one doubles team of Michela Verpelli and Alisa Rudenko prevailed 6-3
- Claudia De Andreis and Chyi Lee rolled to a 6-2 victory at two doubles
- Sydney Homan and Camilla Ciacci cruised to a 6-0 victory at three doubles
- The 'Dogs claimed the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead into singles play

SINGLES

- Ciacci started things off with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at six singles
- Lee prevailed 6-0, 6-2 at number four singles to give the 'Dogs a 3-0 advantage
- Rudenko won the clincher at two singles, picking up a 6-3, 6-0 victory
- Verpelli won 6-4, 6-3 at number one singles to make it 5-0
- De Andreis rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win at five singles while Riann Hsu won by the same score at three singles

- WU has eight regular season SAC titles and four tournament championships the last eight seasons
