#12 Mount Olive comes back to shock #15 Wingate in overtime

Mount Olive, N.C.----The 12th-ranked Mount Olive Trojans scored the final six goals of the game Saturday afternoon, rallying past No. 15 Wingate University 11-10 in overtime in NCAA Division II men's lacrosse action at Ray McDonald Complex. The Trojans improve to 8-1 on the season, while the Bulldogs fall to 6-3. 
 
KEY STATS
 
- Wingate outshot UMO 46-37 with a 33-23 edge in shots on goal
- The Trojans had 27 ground balls, compared to 18 for the 'Dogs
- Mount Olive won 18-of-23 face offs
- UMO had 20 turnovers on the afternoon, while WU had 11
 
KEY BULLDOGS
 
- Conor Gronbach had three goals and one assist for a team best four points
- Joe Cooper notched two goals and collected one assist
- Bobby Padden added two goals and a groundball
- Dominic Piazza had a goal and an assist
- James Kotcamp and Ryan Ormerod each netted a goal
 
FIRST PERIOD
 
- Gronbach netted the first two goals of the afternoon for Wingate, making it 2-1 at the 8:36 mark
- A goal from Gunner Parson tied it at 2-2 with 6:03 remaining
- WU would get two goals from Cooper in the final five minutes, moving the score to 4-2
 
SECOND PERIOD
 
- Wingate extended the lead to four, getting goals from Padden and Gronbach
- The Trojans got a Tyler Keele goal 1:26 to go
- Piazza capped the first half scoring, with 52 seconds remaining to make it 7-3 at halftime
 
THIRD PERIOD
 
- UMO scored two goals to start the second half
- Blake Tallon scored a man-up goal at the 13:53 mark for the Trojans
- Wingate answered with a 3-0 run, Kotcamp capped the run with 8:15 remaining
- Mount Olive would score the final six goals of the afternoon, spanning 22 minutes
- Austin Pepper and Thatcher Clark would start the rally in the third  
 
FOURTH PERIOD
 
- The Trojans scored all three goals in the fourth quarter to tie it at 10
- Wingate notched 10 shots in the final quarter of regulation, yet were unable to find the back of the net
- Conner Watson scored the first goal of the frame for UMO at the 11:02 mark
- Mount Olive got within one with 6:33 to go when Brady Elbin scored
- One minute later Parson would tie it at 10-10
 
OVERTIME
 
- The 'Dogs took two shots in the overtime frame
- UMO took three shots, Clark found the back of the net with 1:05 left

- Wingate hits the road to Lincoln Memorial next Saturday
