Bulldogs come out hot in 17-6 victory over Cobras

Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs scored the first eight goals of the game in the opening 11 minutes en route to a dominant 17-6 victory over the Coker College Cobras in South Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse action Wednesday Afternoon at Graham Gill Field. Wingate improves to 7-7 overall, and 4-2 in conference play, while Coker falls to 5-8 on the season, and 2-5 in league play.

"I was really proud of the way we started the game off initially and just being able to come out with that big lead on them and not really slow down the mentality with how we were pushing the ball and controlling the ball on the offensive side."

Wingate out-shot Coker 33-14
- The Bulldogs had 26 shots on goal compared to 10 for the Cobras
- Coker won 12 draw controls, while the 'Dogs won 11
- The Cobras notched nine saves; WU had four

Wingate improves to 5-2 all-time against Coker, and 3-0 at Graham Gill Field

- Sixth time this season Wells has scored at least four goals in a game
- Ruiz's five ground balls are a career high
- Sierra Street netted her first goal of the season, and second of her career

FIRST HALF

- Wingate started the game a man-up, Emily Ketron found the back of the net after just 25 seconds of playing time
- Wells scored back-to-back goals, putting Wingate up 3-0 with 23 minutes left in the half
- WU added another goal just 25 seconds later when Morgan Akers found the back of the net
- The Bulldogs got two goals from Gottschalk to go along with a Wells go to take a 6-0 lead
- Kamer netted the man-up goal at the 19:09 mark to push the Wingate lead to 8-0
- After 14 minutes of scoreless play for the Cobras, Faith Kent found the back of the net
- The Cobras scored again, but Wingate answered with three straight making it an 11-2 game on back-to-back Ruiz goals
- Makenzie Stroup netted the final goal of the frame making it 12-4 at the half
 
SECOND HALF

- Coker got the first on the board first in the second half with a goal from Alexis Zegan
- Wingate would get goals from Camryn Gallagher and Wells to extend the lead to nine
- At the 14-minute mark Street found the back of the net for the 'Dogs
- Wingate capped the 5-0 flurry with a goal from Ruiz and another from Wells
- The Cobras got the final goal of the game when Bailey O'Brien made it 17-6 with 2:09 to go
