Bulldogs fall to 10th-ranked Royals in SAC Tourney semifinals

Wingate, N.C.----The 10th-ranked Queens University Royals utilized a dominant 14-4 first half Friday afternoon, pulling away for a 20-5 victory over Wingate University in the Semifinals of 2019 South Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse tournament. The Royals improve to 16-2 overall. Wingate finishes the season 9-9.

KEY STATS

- Queens out-shot Wingate 42-14, with a 33-10 edge in shots on goal
- The Bulldogs had 15 turnovers; the Royals turned it over 11 times
- QU won 20 draw controls; WU won seven
- The Royals were five-for-10 on free-position shots; The 'Dogs were zero-for-two
- Wingate held a 13-11 advantage on ground balls

KEY BULLDOGS

Nina Cifolilli had two goal and one assist to lead the 'Dogs with three points
Bellla Pellet added a two goals on three shots
Emily Ketron contributed a goal, collected two ground balls and three draw controls
- Becca Ruiz handed out three of the four assists for the 'Dogs
Caroline Heffner added three ground balls and two caused turnovers
Arion Pierre registered 13 saves
 
NOTES

- Queens improves to 8-0 all time against Wingate
- The five goals are the lowest of the season for the Bulldogs
- Wingate's 14 shots are the second lowest of the season
- WU was playing in the SAC Tourney semifinals for the third straight season  

FIRST HALF

- Queens rushed out to a 4-0 lead in the first four minutes of the game
- Ally Blood netted two for the Royals in the run
- Cifolilli notched the first goal for the Bulldogs at the 24:34 mark
- Wingate would get a Ketron goal with 20:37 remaining, making it 5-2
- Less than a minute later QU would get a Kara Blanchard goal
- The 'Dogs would get another Cifolilli goal at the 18-minute mark
- Queens would score the next six, with Blood scoring twice
- The Royals run would be capped but a man-up goal from Kyleigh Masteran with 8:15 remaining
- Wingate would get a goal from Pellet with 2:32 to go, making it 12-4
- Queens notched the final two goals of the frame to take a 10-goal lead at halftime

SECOND HALF

- Queens scored the first four of the second half
Allison Conn would start the run with a man-down goal for the Royals
- The QU run was capped by a Katy Miller man-up goal with 14:11 remaining
- Pellet netted the only goal of the second half for Wingate with 8:23 to go
- The Royals would net the final two goals of the game, making it 20-5
