Missed opportunities costly in Wingate’s 2-1 NCAA Tournament loss against Anderson

Jefferson City, Tenn.----The sixth-seeded Wingate University Bulldogs left nine runners on base through the first four innings Friday afternoon, falling 2-1 against the seventh-seeded Anderson University Trojans on day two of the NCAA Southeast Regional softball tournament. Anderson improves to 33-21 overall, staying alive in the NCAA Tournament. The 'Dogs end their season at 32-19.

- Wingate out-hit Anderson 6-3 on the day
- The Bulldogs had five extra-base hits and the lone homer; AU had one extra-base hit
- Each team committed an error
- AU pitching had four strikeouts and two walks; Wingate had five strikeouts and two walks

- A Morgan Charter RBI groundout gave Anderson a 1-0 lead

- Charter's two-out RBI double gave Anderson a 2-0 advantage

- Swenson connected on her ninth homer of the year in the seventh to get Wingate within a run

WRAPUP

- Kayla Pepper got the win, moving to 16-13 on the season
- She allowed a run on six hits in seven innings, striking out four and walking two
- Reep took the loss, falling to 15-9
- She allowed one earned run on three hits in six innings, striking out five and walking two
