#17 Wingate moves to 4-0 with 13-10 victory at Catawba

Salisbury, N.C.----For the second time in as many trips to Salisbury, the Wingate University Bulldogs got a game-winning field goal in the final minute, prevailing 13-10 at Catawba College in South Atlantic Conference football action Saturday night. Wingate moves to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the SAC, while the Indians fall to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in league play.

FIRST QUARTER

- Wingate received the opening kickoff and went 75 yards on 11 plays
- McNeill's first three runs went for 12, 11 and 11 yards, respectively
- Clark went for 10 yards to get the 'Dogs down to the Catawba 14
- Two plays later McNeill scored from eight yards out to make it 7-0
- Catawba answered with an eight-play, 75-yard drive
- Kendall Davis hit Gavin Rose for a 25-yard strike to tie it 7-7 with 4:21 left in the first quarter

SECOND QUARTER

- The Bulldogs went 72 yards on 12 plays to regain the lead
- Clark went for 24 yards on the first two plays
- Crocker hit Trevor Grant for 21 yards to get it to the Catawba 30
- Simmons had a pair of catches to get it inside the Catawba five
- Wingate settled for a 20-yard Robertson field goal, taking a 10-7 halftime lead

THIRD QUARTER

- Catawba used an eight-play, 77-yard drive to tie it
- Davis hit Rose for a 46-yard strike down the sideline to get it to the WU 28
- A third-and-goal pass from the three was broken up in the end zone by Davion Washington
- Clayton Crile hit a 20-yard field goal to make it 10-10

FOURTH QUARTER

- The 'Dogs took over at their own seven with 6:55 to go
- Crocker hit Mobley on third and five for 19 yards to keep the drive alive
- A Jalen Brooks 14-yard grab and McNeill 10-yard run got it to midfield
- Crocker found Mobley for another 20 yards, getting it to the Catawba 24
- Robertson put the 'Dogs on top with a 34-yarder with 38 seconds left
- The WU defense shut down Catawba, highlighted by Hanford's SAC to force a second and 22

UP NEXT

- Wingate is back on the road next Saturday, traveling to Tusculum for a 2 p.m. kickoff
- It will be the fourth road game in the first five weeks of the season for the 'Dogs
- That is followed by a three-game home stand
- The home stand starts Oct. 12 when the Bulldogs host Limestone at 6 p.m. on ESPN3
