Big middle innings lead Bulldogs past Patriots

Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs scored two runs in the fifth inning and five in the sixth Tuesday afternoon, picking up an 8-3 victory over Francis Marion University in NCAA Division II baseball action at Ron Christopher Stadium and Plyler Athletic Field. Wingate moves to 10-4 overall, while the Patriots fall to 5-8 on the season.

- Bryant followed with a sacrifice fly to put the Bulldogs on top 3-2

SIXTH INNING

- Farris started the frame with a double, then scored on Guy's RBI single
- Guy scored when Carson Simpson was caught stealing to make it 5-2
- Clark's RBI single plated Motsinger, while a Mellett RBI single put WU on top by five
- Farris drew a bases-loaded walk to cap the scoring on the day for the Bulldogs

NINTH INNING

- A Bill Hanna RBI single in the top of the ninth made the final margin 8-3

WRAPUP

- Isenhour got the win, moving to 1-0
- He allowed two runs on eight hits (all singles) in five innings of work
- The senior left-hander struck out five without walking a batter, throwing 80 pitches
- Johnson allowed just two singles in three innings of work, striking out three without a walk
- Reece Kleinhelter took the loss, allowing three runs on four hits in 4 2/3 innings
