Bulldogs take down Royals behind Brandon’s monster night

Wingate, N.C.-—-Wingate University graduate student Haleigh Brandon piled up 21 points and 18 rebounds Wednesday afternoon, leading the Bulldogs to a 91-59 victory over visiting Queens University in South Atlantic Conference women's basketball action in Cuddy Arena. Wingate improves to 8-1 overall and a perfect 8-0 in the SAC, while the Royals fall to 3-6 overall and 2-6 in league play.
 
KEY STATS
 
- Wingate shot 48 percent, while the Royals shot 35 percent
- The Bulldogs made eight-of-22 threes (36 percent); Queens was eight-of-23 (35 percent)

- Clark's triple capped the run
 
SECOND QUARTER
 
- The Bulldogs began the second quarter on an 8-2 run
- Brandon's layup gave Wingate a 29-14 lead with over six minutes remaining
- After a Queens jumper, Wingate answered with a 6-0 run, giving them an 18-point lead
- The Royals got the deficit down to 13 with over two minutes remaining
- WU went on another 8-2 run, capped by a Clark layup that gave the 'Dogs a 19-point lead at the break
 
THIRD QUARTER
 
- Wingate built on the lead to start the second half, going on an 11-0 run over the first 2:17 of the third quarter
- Troutman's jumper gave the 'Dogs a 58-28 lead
- After the score was 60-30, the Royals went on a 12-0 run over four minutes
- Kristy Hamze's layup brought the score to 60-42 with 2:40 remaining in the quarter
- The 'Dogs answered with a 6-0 run of their own, taking a 24-point lead to the final period
 
FOURTH QUARTER
 
- Wingate began the final quarter on a 7-0 run, extending the run to 13-0 dating back to the third quarter
- Clarks' jumper at the 8:17 mark brought the lead to 73-42
- Troutman's layup with 3:47 remaining made the lead 85-50
- The 35-point lead was the largest of the game for the Bulldogs
