Wingate, N.C.-----The Wingate University Bulldogs opened the home slate of the 2021 season by sweeping past Concord in an NCAA Division II softball doubleheader Wednesday afternoon. Wingate won the opener 12-9, while taking game two 6-2 to move to 4-2 overall. The Mountain Lions fall to 0-2 on the season.

- After Concord took an early 1-0 lead, the 'Dogs scored three in the bottom of the frame
- Three walks loaded the bases for Hogan
- She cleared the bases with a three-run double down the line to make it 3-1
SECOND INNING

Gracyn Polk was hit by a pitch to start the frame, then stole second
- She scored on Cashwell's RBI single to make it 4-1
THIRD INNING
- Jenna Witt's two-run homer in the top of the third pulled Concord within a run
FOURTH INNING
- A Peters solo shot tied it in the top of the fourth
- Wingate scored three times in the bottom of the frame to take a 7-4 lead
- A Kramer single was followed by a walk and a Cashwell single to load the bases
- Maness lined a three-run double to left center to put Wingate on top by three
FIFTH INNING
- The Mountain Lions answered with two in the top of the fifth to pull back within one
- The 'Dogs scored five times in the bottom of the frame
- Kramer's RBI double started the scoring
- Polk scored when Cashwell reached on an error, while a wild pitch allowed

- A two-run double from Maness gave Wingate a 12-6 lead

- She allowed four runs on five hit in 2 1/3 innings, striking out two

- She re-entered in the top of the seventh and recorded the final out of the game
- Laura Thompson took the loss, allowing 12 runs on seven hits in five innings
