Cutcher and Maness highlight Wingate’s doubleheader sweep over Bobcats

Wingate, N.C.----Wingate University sophomore right-hander Raechel Cutcher tossed a two-hit shutout in game one of Thursday afternoon's NCAA Division II softball doubleheader, while freshman infielder Heaven Maness had four hits and four RBI to lead the offense in the doubleheader sweep over Lees-McRae College. Wingate won the opener 6-0, while prevailing 5-2 in the second game to move to 7-7 overall. The Bobcats fall to 2-8 on the season.

- Both stole second and third, respectively, while a wild throw to third allowed Liles to score
- A Stroud RBI single allowed Cashwell to score to make it 4-0
- Stroud then stole second and scored on Kale's RBI groundout to give WU a 5-0 lead

SIXTH INNING

- Hannah Reeves drew a one-out walk, then moved to second on a Liles walk
- McWilliams pinch ran for Reeves and scored on Cashwell's RBI single

WRAPUP

- Cutcher got the win, moving to 1-1
- She allowed just two singles in seven innings of work, striking out three and walking one
- It is the sophomore's first career seven-inning complete-game shutout
- After allowing the first two base runners of the game to reach, Cutcher retired 17 straight
- The only base runner after the first was a two-out, infield single
- Raygan Rensing took the loss, allowing five runs on six hits in four innings, striking out three and walking three

- An RBI single from Abby West got the Bobcats on the board
- Cashwell singled to start the bottom of the frame, then stole second
- Maness's RBI single plated Cashwell to put the 'Dogs on top 5-1

SIXTH INNING

- An RBI double from West got the Bobcats within three at 5-2
- Knuckles ended the LMC threat with a strikeout

WRAPUP

- Kale got the win, moving to 5-2
- She allowed a run on six hits in 4 1/3 innings, striking out five and walking one
- Knuckles notched her first save, tossing 1 1/3 shutout innings with two strikeouts
- Wyatt took the loss, allowing three runs on three hits in 2 2/3 innings
