DeLong’s hat trick leads Bulldogs to emphatic 8-0 victory over Cobras

Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs celebrated Senior Day in style Thursday afternoon, cruising to an 8-0 victory over Coker University in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action at Pride Park. Wingate out-shot Coker 40-0 on the night, improving to 2-2-2 overall and 2-2-1 in the SAC. The Cobras fall to 0-5 overall and 0-5 in league play.

KEY STATS

- The 40-0 advantage in shots included a 26-0 edge in the second half
- Wingate held a 25-0 advantage in shots on goal
- The Bulldogs took all 17 corner kicks
- The 'Dogs scored three goals in the first half and five in the second half

KEY BULLDOGS

- DeLong had three goals and an assist to lead the offense
- Kaitlyn Cox and Caroline Peters collected a goal and an assist each
- Kristen DeBiase, Jordan Barras and Makenzy Morgan each added a goal
- Alicia Rubio Garcia, Jess LaFrancis, Morgan Zanardi and Samantha Olson each had an assist
- Allison Kite notched the shutout in goal

FIRST HALF

- Cox got the scoring started 15 minutes in
- She took a feed from DeLong and ripped it to the left corner
- DeLong found the back of the net 14 minutes later
- Peters set her up with a beautiful pass from the left side and DeLong lined it home to make it 2-0
- Peters struck in the 38th minute to give the 'Dogs a three-goal lead
- Cox fed it to her from deep in the box and Peters struck from the left edge of the box to make it 3-0

SECOND HALF

- Barras started the scoring in the second half 10 minutes after halftime
- Her first career goal came off a LaFrancis assist to make it 4-0
- DeLong's second goal of the night came five minutes later off a rebound right in front of the net
- DeLong completed her hat trick in the 65th minute off a Rubio Garcia assist to make it 6-0
- DeBiase headed home a Zanardi corner kick in the 72nd minute to put the Bulldogs on top by seven
- Morgan's first career goal came off an Olson assist, capping the scoring with 16 minutes left

UP NEXT

- Wingate is back in action next Thursday, traveling to Lenoir-Rhyne at 4 p.m.
