New Orleans, La.----The Wingate University men's cross country team is ranked no. 17 in the week two NCAA Division II national rankings, compiled by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The Bulldogs are third in the Southeast Region behind Queens and Augusta.
What They Are Saying
Wingate head cross country coach
Pol Domenech
"Both teams have competed really well the first two races of the season. We are looking forward to what's ahead. Our next race is a week from Saturday, so this gives us the opportunity to fully focus on our training."
Wingate cross country student-athlete
Brent Surratt
"This season has definitely been the greatest season that I have experienced in my three years at Wingate. We have done very well in the past two meets with actually being able to run as a TEAM rather than individually as we have done in the past. We have a large and strong group of men this year and this helps to keep us close together so that we can make moves as a pack during the races. These first two races have been controlled efforts from this team, so I am really excited to see what we can do at Saint Leo on October 2nd when we can really let ourselves loose."
Last week
South Atlantic Conference Runner of the Week
Bastian Mrochen led the Bulldogs for the second consecutive race Saturday, helping Wingate place second in the 26-team Converse Kickoff at the Milliken Research Park. Mrochen finished 10th with his 8K time of 26:02.0. All total, 272 runners completed the Converse Kickoff 8K race.
