Wingate sweeps past Catawba for 16th straight win in Salisbury

Salisbury, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs won their third straight match Saturday night, sweeping past Catawba College in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action. Wingate won by scores of 25-23, 25-15 and 25-23 to improve to 8-2 overall and 4-2 in the SAC. The Indians fall to 6-5 overall and 3-2 in league play. Wingate has now won 28 straight against the Indians and 16 consecutive matches at Catawba, improving to 49-18 all-time against Catawba.

- Wingate hit .245 in the match; Catawba hit .184
- The 'Dogs had 41 kills and 16 errors in 101 attacks

- An Allison Bryant kill gave Catawba an 11-7 lead in the opening frame
- Another Bryant kill put the Indians on top 16-10
- A Katie Jamerson ace cut the lead to three at 16-13, but an error put CatU back up by four
- A Young block pulled WU within two, but a Kylie Morgan ace put Catawba on top 20-16
- Kills from Lambillotte and Schaff made it 20-19, but a Morgan kill pushed the lead back to two
- Kills from Lambillotte and Marianna Warren tied it at 21
- Bryant's kill gave the Indians a 23-22 advantage, but the 'Dogs scored the last three points
- A Catawba service error and attack error gave Wingate a 24-23 lead
- Another Catawba error ended the frame

SECOND SET

- A Morgan kill gave Catawba a 10-8 lead in the second set
- Wingate scored five of the next six, getting a block and a kill from Young to take a 13-11 lead
- Kills from Kasprak and Young put the Bulldogs on top 15-12
- A kill and a block from Young made it 18-14, but a Morgan kill cut the lead to three
- Wingate answered by scoring the next seven points to claim the set
- A Schaff block and Kasprak kill started the spurt, while a Kasey Eastland ace made it 22-15
- A block and a kill from Schaff made it 24-17; a Catawba error ended the frame

THIRD SET

- An Ashley Johnson kill put the Indians on top 10-8 in the third
- A Bryant kill and Jordan Gore block gave Catawba a 13-9 advantage
- A kill and a block from Schaff pulled WU within two at 15-13
- A Johnson block gave Catawba an 18-15 lead, but a Young kill and Warren ace made it 18-17
- Bryant's kill put the Indians on top 20-18, but the Bulldogs scored the next four points
- Schaff had all four kills in the flurry to give Wingate a 22-20 lead
- A Raytchelle Miranda kill and WU error tied it at 22, but back-to-back Catawba errors made it 24-22
